Gaming of the future with the new 3DS

Nintendo 3DS

The Nintendo 3DS is to make its UK show debut at this month’s Midlands MCM Expo which takes place at Telford’s International Centre on 19 February.

Visitors to the event will have an amazing opportunity to preview Nintendo’s revolutionary glasses-free 3D gaming system more than a month before its official 25th March launch.

The JAMS (Japanese Anime Media Society) of Lincoln university will be among the lucky ones who get to see and in effect get to ‘test’ this new development in gaming technology.

40 lucky individuals from the club will all be alighting to Telford this weekend, making them the first from the Lincolnshire area to get to grips with this new game concept.

One of these lucky people is free lance games journalist from the University of Lincoln, Jonathan Cresswell, “It’s quite important for people to try the 3DS, as it’s got a bit of an odd selling point. 3D without glasses sounds great, but you really need to try it to get the feeling of it and see that it actually does work. It feels just like watching any 3D film at the cinema, just without the glasses, and you really need to get your hands on it to understand that and appreciate the effect.”

But for those still unsure as to why the future should lead to the 3D revolution, Jonathan tells of many positives to such a new and interesting console, “The console itself seems brilliant – they’ve upgraded the system so it’s much more powerful and games do look better, the 3D works great but right now the cost is just too much for what you’re getting, and without any must-have titles.”

“For Nintendo, it’s particularly important because the cost of the 3DS is just so high – it’ll probably be twice what the Nintendo DS launched at – so getting people excited through hands-on experience is vital for the company, and is why they’re about to embark on a nationwide tour to show it off.”

This will be the first consumer based event appearance for the 3DS outside of the limited Nintendo ticket only previews around the UK. Tickets to the MCM Midlands Telford Expo are still available in advance from £8 from www.midlansdmcmexpo.com. Otherwise they are available for £5 on the door.
